Flock Camera System Discussed at Gardendale Council Meeting

February 8, 2022

Members of the police department, residents, and Mayor Hogeland discussed the benefits of installing camera systems at a town hall meeting in February. Flock Safety, a company that sells and maintains camera systems, joined the discussion and provided information on the systems.

Safety First

The cameras are usually for residential use and installed at exit points from communities. But the systems can be used in any area where monitoring is deemed necessary. The cameras are solar-powered and are installed quickly.

How They Aid in Safety

The cameras snap photos of cars entering and leaving areas protected by the systems. When the picture of the vehicle is taken, the license plate is also captured. Information is then gathered to be provided to the police if a car has been stolen or if the owner has outstanding warrants.

Success in the Past

A camera installed at both entrance and exit points of the Gardendale Walmart recently contributed to a quick arrest made for a stolen car.

Cost and Future Plans

Currently, the system requires an investment of $2,400 per camera plus an additional $350 implementation one-time fee. While the discussion is still in the early stages, it seems evident that HOA and others in Gardendale and Mount Olive are seriously considering installing them.
